HS S.O. gets to work

On Thursday of last week I had the opportunity to meet with the High School Student Organization.  What a very impressive group of young adults.  Matt Yarri, LeighMarie Weber, Michael Escobar, Michael Byrne, Tess Alexander, and the lone junior- Sean Cha comprise the executive board.  Valerie Liese is the advisor.  The most pressing issue?- Food of course.  Matt promised to blog the issues on the “So how’s the food post”  so everyone can view them and comment.  I am sure we can work out all of the kinks with our new food service vendor.

    Dear Dr. Nagler,

Below is the full list of all concerns raised by students regarding the food at the High School. As of writing this message, I have learned that some of the problems listed below have been resolved, however for thoroughness the original list has been posted in its entirety.

*Student’s are requesting that an alternative to milk be served with school lunch (some have concerns regarding allergies)
*There are complaints that by the last lunch period (8th period) there is no longer food available
*Food that is served 8th period is often cold
*Milk served 8th period is warm/sour
*The cafeteria needs to be be opened at 7am as opposed to 7:20am in order to give students adequate time to buy and eat breakfast and still arrive on time to their classes
*Food servers need to wear hairnets
*There is a shortage of cafeteria personnel, leading to long lines and slow service
*Student ask that lunch be served throughout the entire period and not only at the beginning
*Students are asking that the salad and snack line be re-opened to provide an alternative to meat-based lunches
*Students are asking for a greater variety of salad dressing (especially those that contain less fat)
*Vending machines need to repaired and prices for food sold in vending machines need to be universal throughout the high school

Thank you for addressing these issues and reaching out to the S.O. for input.
