I am all for helping the families in need, but I can’t help but ask, when you say will remain open for families, does this mean that they will be staying during school hours as well? Are these families only for the Mineola area? How is this being monitored? How is the security of the buildings, school property and most important, the kids’ security being managed? Who is coordinating this effort?

  4. our biggest concern right now is whether or not our staff can safety get to our buildings. If they can we can open Tuesday without concerns. We can isolate the voters in certain rooms in the buildings via seperate exterior doors. While I am optomistic, we may find out tomorrow we cannot operate. If that is teh case we will reconsider opening Tuesday. As for SCOPE, I cannot confirm with them and will not have an answer until tomorrow. Sorry. We will have staff after hours. I have no way on knowing how many people will stay in school after hours.

How likely is it that you will reconsider closing the elementary schools for Election Day? We’ve been hearing lots of concerns about gas and safety on that day. A decision sooner rather than later would be great, as those of us in duel-working spouse situations are having a lot of trouble coordinating work schedules, child coverage and transportation. It sounds like most of the other districts have already decided to remain closed rather than spend extra money on security. Thank you.

  7. If you do not have power and/or heat please use the buildings. As long as we have staff present we can keep them open. We will assess the need tomorrow.
