Mineola Superintendent's Blog

Listen to the Wind

As a follow up to an earlier blog entitled “Three Cups of Tea”  I was invited to the High School this morning to participate in a special service learning project.  Dr. Connolly and Ms. McDonnell’s classes hosted the third grade from Hampton Street.  The ninth grade students read the story Listen to the Wind: The story of Dr. Greg and three cups of tea.  The Hampton students then answered questions and had a discussion about their experiences in school compared to their counterparts in Pakistan.  The second part of the day involved an art activity in which students made a special cup in order to collect pennies to help purchase supplies for Pakistan children.  Mineola is a national leader in service learning.  The Student Service Center, led by Ms. Eileen Burke and Ms. Nancy Regan is a model for the rest of the country to follow.  Kudos to all the student participants, Ms. Carretta and Ms. Hughes from Hampton and Andres Zaldivar for remembering to send me this logo.
