Concerts

As the cold weather rolls in you know it is time for our annual winter concerts.  Over the last week I have enjoyed 4 different school performances.  Last Thursday I attended Hampton’s concert.  In between performances they have a wonderful tradition of auctioning baked goods to raise money for needy families in the Hampton neighborhood.  Michael (not Cina) Palumbo’s tiramisu had the biggest bids. Of course the musical performances were spectacular.

On Friday I visited Jackson Avenue to watch their concert and was amazed by the musicianship of all the groups.  Below is a link to their chorus that Mr. Gaven sent me.

On Monday night the Cross concert was held at the high school for the first time.  It was fun watching the student’s faces as they tried to find their families in the audience.  That’s no small task on a big stage with lights shining in your face. Again, all of the groups sounded great.

Last night I visited the Middle School for the 7th grade concert.  I was very impressed with the musical choices and performances.  The music exploration class continues to grow and exceed expectations – Kudos to Marc Ratner. The night ended with an unbelievable performance by the “Treble makers”, featuring Melissa Dunlop.  Their rendition of Alicia Keyes’ Empire State of Mind took down the house.

I can’t wait for Meadow Drive next Monday at the HS and the High School concert on Tuesday.  Stop by and be amazed.

The concerts are evidence of our wonderful music program and the dedication of all of our music teachers and Mr. Freeman.  Bravo
