The snow couldn’t stop the show! This weekend the Middle School continued its tradition of theatrical excellence with the production of Dear Edwina. Over 150 cast and crew entertained packed houses in spite of the snow! As usual our students demonstrated beautiful voices and excellent comedic timing. Sarah Harty and Nathan Bischoff led an all-star cast where each scene was better than the next. I loved Edwin Melara and Robert Shevlin in “Frankenguest” as well as Sarah Carbain and Alana Smith in “Fork, Knife, Spoon” (Reminded me of ‘Be my guest’ in Beauty and the Beast) The full company (all 120 kids) numbers of “Paw paw Michigan”, “Dear Edwina”, “Hola Lola” and “Thanks for coming” amazed the audience. The coordination and staging to pull off the sheer size and scope of these numbers is mind boggling. As always the ensemble makes the show- special shout out to dance Captains Aileen Miller and Cara Ilchert they anchored a wonderful dance ensemble. Our Middle School production is like no other thanks to the tireless work of our parents and volunteers- thanks all of you who helped make this production a reality. Last, but not least, tremendous praise and thanks to Matt DeLuca, Brian Goldman, Don Carreras and Barbara Peters. Even faced with a 2 hour commute after shoveling out of 30” of snow the “show went on”.

Current forecasts indicate that we are safe to open school tomorrow. The forecasts also indicate the unpredictability of the storm and the weather may get worse sooner than expected. Therefore there is a possibility that we may have to close buildings early. This will be a last resort; I understand the difficulties associated with this decision. If we decide to close early the decision will be made before 11:00am and you will be notified by phone. All schools would dismiss 1 hour earlier than usual, therefore you could expect your child’s bus to arrive one hour earlier than it normally does. If you are unable to meet your child at the bus please send in a note with him/her tomorrow morning and we will hold your child at school until you are able to pick him/her up. Again- this is unlikely to happen but let’s plan accordingly. In the event of an early dismissal SCOPE will remain open until 4:30, but children will be supervised until you are able to get to the building.
It is highly likely that evening activities will be canceled. That decision will be made by 4:00pm. In the event that activities are cancelled the following arrangements have been made-
1) High School Senior Class Carnival Night will be rescheduled to April 12
2) Middle School musical Dear Edwina- The Friday Night and Saturday matinee will be postponed. The new times for the performances would be:
Saturday evening at 7:30 PM (Friday evening exact seats will be honored)
Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM (Saturday matinee exact seats will be honored)
Sunday evening at 7:30 PM (Saturday evening exact seats will be honored)
If you have already purchased tickets and would prefer to come to a different show than we designated above, we will gladly honor your ticket, but we will have to put you in a different seat.
3) Winter Guard Trip to Trumball CT has already been cancelled.

This is an incredible story … Nicholas Ramos, fourth grader at Jackson, performed a “back thrust” on his friend Steven Jones when he began choking on a carrot stick at lunch. Nicholas learned the life-saving technique in the cub scouts. I commend both students who seemed to know exactly what to do in this stressful situation – Steven for knowing how to let others know he was in danger, and Nicholas for utilizing the skills he learned in a calm and effective manner.
News 12 covered the story and the boys are being featured tonight beginning at 5pm.

A video of the High School A Cappella Singers performing “Fix You” at their Winter Concert was posted on YouTube. Of the 600 or so hits it received, one was from a casting producer from America’s Got Talent. He called me yesterday afternoon, told me he loved the performance, and wants the group to audition for the show. Of course, NYC auditions are tomorrow. The kids found out this morning, and they, along with their director Meg Messina, are getting ready for their scheduled audition. (This is an open call, but because AGT contacted us, the choir will bypass the line and will be brought directly to the producers for their audition.)
If things go as hoped, the next stage will be performing on stage in front of Howie, Sharon, Howard, and a packed theater…
Please join me in congratulating Meg and the kids and in wishing them the best.
Pete

Watch this video from a Binghamton News station about a fundraiser they recently held. It is in response to the “golden Rule” project our parents ran two years when Binghamton was flooded from Hurricane Irene. Any monies donated to us we will forward to those school districts most heavily damaged.
