Mineola Superintendent's Blog

Annie

Matt Deluca is a consummate professional.  His dedication to directing fantastic shows, regardless of the age of the performers or the size of the ensemble, is match by no one.  The production of Annie Jr. was another shining example of the exceptional drama program that Mineola offers our students.  With a cast of over 100 students and a crew over 30 this production was massive.  The ability to organize and direct so many students on one stage is mind blowing.  Of course the talent of our young students makes the show unbelievable.  Kaitlyn’s performance as Annie was American Idol worthy.  Joel James and Kristina Shevlin as the brother and sister team of Rooster and Mrs. Hannigan had the audience loving and hating them at the same time.  The ensemble stole the show, especially the orphans; can’t wait to see these ladies in future productions. Kudos to Kaylie, Erin, Emily, Sara, Sarah and Angela.  Special thanks to all of the parent volunteers that make this production happen.  Without them I do not think the show could be as massive and wonderful.

Many thanks for the kind words.

A big show like this one is always a challenge, so I was especially proud if this cast for meeting this challenge head-on and delivering such entertaining performances. Among our leads this year were many kids who had never before had the opportunity to show what they can do. Jake Lenze, Felicia VIlla, Jack Gorman and Marcella Rodriguez, in addition to Kaitlyn McCarey of course, demonstrated remarkable growth as perofrmers. Plus, every moment spent working with them was an absolute pleasure.

Of course, this show would never have come to life without the invaluable creative input from my gifted colleagues and friends, Barbara Peters and Brian Goldman. Watching these two professionals work with our children with such kindness and patience fills me with pride and awe. They make our kids (and me) look and sound great.

Finally, I cannot list the parents who gave so much of themselves to make this production what it was because that list is too long. But, Miriam and Mike Shevlin and Mary Kate Kern must be acknowledged for heading up this amazing group of people.

    See you next year!
