Homecoming
Since the rain drowned out the parade, we have rescheduled for Sunday October 18th at 12:00. We will conclude the parade with a performance by our Marching Band. Below is an account of the Homecoming Football game by Nick Palma
Mineola Loses Their Homecoming Game
It was a rough day for Mineola Varsity Football this past Saturday as they lost their Homecoming game to a tough Malverne team. Malverne was ranked third coming into this year’s football season so Mineola had to expect a challenge. Mineola got on the scoreboard first, as Rijo Maracheril caught a 40 yard pass from Mike Escobar in the first quarter putting Mineola up 7-0 going into the second quarter. Malverne would then score tying the game at 7-7. Not too long after sophomore Nico Pantelides caught a 4-yard touchdown pass making it a 13-7 game. Malverne would go up by 1 point, going into halftime. In the second half, Malverne took control of the game, scoring three straight touchdowns and would later go on to beat Mineola by a final score of 33-20. Although the Homecoming Parade was canceled due to bad weather, the game and the atmosphere were great. The Mineola fans were all into the game filling up the stands. The Marching Band gave the fans something to watch as they performed during halftime. So, although it was an upsetting loss for Mineola, as this loss really decreases the hope of making the playoffs, they can still bounce back and have a good year as they play next Saturday, away at 3 o’clock.
