Kiwanis

I had the pleasure to speak at the Kiwanis meeting this morning. They are involved throughout the district with K-Kids as well as the Key club in the HS.  What a wonderful group of people working hard to make life easier for so many.  Here is a description of Kiwanis from their website.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

Kiwanis Name
The name “Kiwanis” means “we trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.

Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen!

As Kiwanis clubs and members, we see it everyday!

Well put Zoila. As a K-Kids overseer, I am fortunate to work with them and my kids are so enthusiastic to give of their time and effort. For the next 2 Saturdays, Dec. 12, and 19th our k-kids will be ringing the bells for Salvation Army at King Kullen in Mineola. All funds raised will benefit those in need. I encourage those who can, to stop by and support their efforts.

The elementary schools are very grateful to the Kiwanis Club. Every year, they sponsor 5 to 10 students from our schools to have a one week Summer experience at the Kiwanis sleep-away camp. We have had students who beg to go again every year, but we also add new students every year. We are very grateful to our contact person, Mr. John DaVanzo, who not only remembers to call us every year, but in many instances has assisted our families with food and other financial matters.
Many thanks to all the Kiwanis club members!
