Curriculum Connections

I was invited to watch a series of monologues performed by Mrs. Messina’s musical theater class.  The project involved Mrs. Messina’s students collaborating with Mr. Murray’s AP English students to write the monologues.  The teachers describe the project as follows- “The students of the Musical Theater class will be presenting original monologues which are based on true stories from the lives of the performers – some are touching, some funny, and some deeply personal.  Each performer collaborated with a student from the AP English class.  After a great deal of interviewing, story-telling and cooperative work, a specific event from the conversations was chosen and the English students dramatized those stories by writing the monologues.  The writers were sympathetic to their subjects while infusing the scenes with excitement and tension.”

The performances were great I was particularly impressed with the humor of some of the male writers.  Jeremy Friedman, Nick Harran, Daniel Pinto and Matt Morro had me laughing out loud several times.  (You couldn’t hear my laugh over Mr. Murray’s)

Great job everyone, I hope you had as much fun collaborating as I had watching it!
