The Best is Yet to Come.

There is a silver lining in every cloud.  Yesterday’s results should be seen as the birth of a new school district, one that will be the envy of Long Island.  The new configuration of the district will allow us to maintain ALL of our current programs. It will also allow us to expand on new initiatives and experiences for children.  Our ipad pilot will be expanded to include the entire sixth grade next year.  The new configuration will allow us to focus curriculum and concentrate on individual student growth.  We will be able to maximize our staffing and provide services for more children that may need them.  In addition we will be able to offer more enrichment opportunities for children to explore their interests.  Our neighboring school districts are cutting programs to manage their budgets and will be growing.  The school board and I are determined to provide the best possible school system and still manage our finances into the future.  We are poised to achieve all of these goals.  The best is yet to come…

  1. Well, John, what’s really a shame is that you to assume to know what is going on in my home. My children are far from failure. Your statement ‘children will not be lost and falter… unless the parents fail’ is very bold. You’re saying it’s the sole responsibility of the parent and not the collaboration of the parents, teachers, and support staff to help children succeed. Not every child is the same and will not react to change the same way. It’s those children that have a difficult time with everyday change and transition that will have a much harder time or may even shut down. It’s irresponsible of you to make such a statement. Take some time reading up on the global developement of the child. Change is successful when it’s implemented gradually. It’s warranted when the current model doesn’t work anymore. This is not gradual and it’s still working.

Gee Kate, that’s quite a comment. I’m not sure about you but my glass is always half full in these types of situations. Sure we have, and still are, going through a difficult transition. Sure there will be changes that will take some getting used to but this is the new reality. You can’t read any newspaper in New York without seeing that this is happening throughout the state. Children will not be lost and falter in this transition unless the parents fail. For better or for worse, it all starts in the home. It sure sounds to me that you are setting your children up for failure. That’s a shame.

Congratulations on the re-birth of our school district! (Finally, a MAN that knows what labor pains feel like!)

I agree, Dr. Nagler, this is truly an opportunity. We can now put our money where it counts the most. In our children. I have great faith in our administration and board, and look forward to watching this new baby grow!

  4. This lining has many holes that it will weaken. It’s horrible, the outcome of this latest vote. It’s an epic fail for the district. I can’t see it being the envy of all Long Island. Who would want to move into a school district that doesn’t have home schools, that doesn’t promote stability and continuity in the younger grades. This is not what is best for the children (5th and 8th grade) educationally and developemently. Children will be lost and will falter during the whole transition time. The teachers will have to play ‘catch-up’ instead of advancing their students academically. Mineola has worked so hard in the past 15 years to build up its reputation as a competitive school compared to its more ‘desirible’ neighboring school districts. This just shot it all to hell. Very disappointed.
